As a woman who understands the physical imbalance in a heterosexual relationship, I deplore the existence of the marital rape provisions which deride individual autonomy, the inviolability of the person and safety within the marital home. These provisions are not representative of my conception of singaporean society - it perpetuates gender inquality and leaves the most vulnerable in a blindspot within the law.

This is a legal misnomer, a rule set during the colonial days of male chauvinism, an issue British law has already seek to redress in tandem with more enlightened attitudes towards sexual equality. As Prime Minister, you are looked upon as defender of Singapore’s morality and legal-framework. Do not allow inaction to perpetuate this archaic injustice on married woman – Singaporeans abhor illegality, we reject sexual-violence and/or the possibility of any sexual violence, in and outside of a marriage.

The status quo must be overturned. Keeping in place such archaic laws will do nothing to to further Singapore's image in the current century.
