The act of love and procreation should be a choice between two people regardless of their marital status. The basic right to say no and to be respected for this, should be given to women.

As an enlightened society we should strive to uphold the value of equality which means equality of the sexes as well as of class, race and so on. Allowing marital rape to continue, albeit subject to very limited exceptions is barbaric and has no rationale. This section indirectly condones domestic violence and discourages abused women from speaking up and seeking help as the law is not on their side. This is an outdated piece of legislation which has no justification in the modern world.
