This goes beyond the protection of women and extends to all the children in Singapore. No child should grow up in a home where violence is allowed against anyone. A woman forced to have sex is exploited and violated. All societies need to protect basic human rights.

Rape is an abhorent and violent act that can never be condoned in a liberal, forward-thinking and progressive society such as ours. It is widely recognised that the trauma of rape is greater if the rapist was known to the survivor, be it a spouse, partner, friend or acquaintance, rather than a complete stranger. The current law is failing the vulnerable members of our society, in the interest of criminals who violate and humiliate their loved ones. How the law has made it to this day unchanged is unfathomable, but it is never too late to right this injustice and ensure future generations are free from degrading, brutal violence in their own homes.

Marital rape is just like non marital rape - there is no difference. Please invoke the same penalties for both crimes.
