I feel strongly that any forceful attempts and violence made towards women sexually, whether they are your wives or not, is equally nefarious and a serious violation of women's rights. Sex is supposed to be under mutual agreement even under the law of marriage. No women shall be resorted to violent and non-consensual sex by her husband which could at times be as psychologically destructive as being raped by any other person. The harm left is immense and can be severely damaging to one's emotional wellbeing, possibly even resulting in depression or suicidal thoughts as this is a serious breach of trust in the union of a couple.

Marriage is the holy matrimony between two people. Rape is forced sexual acts against a person. Rape in marriage is a very real thing, and women should be protected against this ghastly thing.

In no way do I want anything less than equality for a wife in a marriage. Sex should not be a form of oppression nor should intimate violence be condoned due to a legally binding union. The personal is political here, because it threatens marriages, families, and in short, gender relations and society. Only when we navigate the grey area of marital rape and firmly indicate intolerance towards such behaviour will we realise the dream of a fair and equal society.
