I know at least 5 married women in Singapore who has been raped by their husbands before. This is completely despicable. I'll be ashamed to be a Singaporean if nothing results from this petition. Really.

This immunity should never have passed the 06/07 Penal Code review in the first place. Rationale presented by the ministry and in parliament for its maintenance was and continues to be appallingly unconvincing. As a friend who suffered under the physical abuse of her ex-partner said, "There's nothing sacred about violence." Repeal now.

We don't allow people to beat their spouses. Rape is a beating - just with a sexual organ instead of a fist.

I support a woman's right to her own body - marriage shouldn't be able to take away such a fundamental right.

The fact that we have to petition for this escapes me!

I believe that martial rape should be criminalised. Women are human beings, not property, and the law should reflect that.
