Marital rape is commonly carried out in cases of domestic violence. As a psychologist, many clients have told me of the horror of being raped by their husband

I have studied this issue in Law School; the debates of the academics and parliamentarians alike, and there can be no justification for this law.

Marriage is legally binding, but it should not bound one to the excesses of marriage. The marriage vow should not exclude any individual from the protection of the law against rape. The law should adapt itself according to circumstances and not let circumstances limit the law. The institution of marriage is not the heart of the matter, it is the matter of the heart. It can easily exist alongside capital deterrence, if only we are willing to try.
