the idea of marriage isn't very appealing as it is, and to have laws like these to help 'subject' women to the wimps of men, makes it worse. In my opinion, women today are more educated/aware than in the past, and hence naturally we will fight for our rights (as we know them). Such an aged piece of legislation, does nothing to help women today and nothing to help our declining marriage numbers.

Singapore, moving forward as a modern, democratic society that embraces its multiculturalism must surely not continue to live in the Dark Ages in this matter. Women and men alike deserve rights over their own body. A woman does not give up her right to her body or her life because she is married. Similarly a man does not stop being above the law to respect a woman's right and to behave lawfully because of marriage.

Why should marriage negate the humiliation, the horror, the pain of rape? Why should married men have a free pass in this aspect? Why are married women not deserving of basic human rights?

Violence of any kind is not to be condoned. I hope the law can do more to protect women who up till now have suffered in silence, especially when there are children involved. Thank you for your efforts.
