Sexual violence is the same regardless of whether the perpetrator is married to the victim or not. The law should be changed to recognize this.

Marriage doesn't give the husband the right to sexually abuse the wife and hence marital rape should not be offered immunity by law. Women have the right to be protected from violence no matter what form.

Often protecting persons in relationships is the most difficult task. Women prefer the silence to talking about being sexually assaulted by a husband, boyfriend, long-term partner. Having a law in place reassures women that they are not alone, they can talk about it, they can put an end to it, they can start the process of reclaiming themselves. This work by the organisers is yet another step to help women in Singapore get the protection they need under such circumstances.

Rape is rape, and there should not be any leniency awarded to rapists. Just as murder is murder. One wouldn't say that murder is not murder just because the murderer killed his wife, so why should a different law be made for rape?
