Marital rape comes in many forms not just physical penetration. It includes any form of non-consensual sexual acts e.g. forcing her to masturbate him, rubbing his genitals on her body. Other forms include verbal, mental, emotional abuse when denied sex. Hope a complete, holistic definition can be taken.

Rape, in essence is a form of violence. By allowing rape to bypass the law in a legally sanctioned marridge, we are essentially condoning such violence on the basis that this union permits such henious deeds. If wife-battering is a crime, rape should be viewed in a similar light, and justice compels us to act upon it.

Even if this does not count as rape it definitely should be treated as domestic violence. Stricter laws should be put in place since there are so many cases of domestic violence that goes unheard.

Every woman, married or not, should have the right to protect herself. Being married should not put you in a greater position of rape than if you are single. Marital rape defies the mutual respect that is one of the pillars of marriage. That marital rape can be protected under the law makes a mockery of our laws and the institution which society supposedly recognizes as sacred.
