This campaign advocates one simple idea: sexual violence by any person, against any person, is criminal violence. Non-consensual intercourse should be treated as rape regardless of whether the perpetrator and victim are married to each other. Although most of this site is in English, we have provided translations of the petition that you can share with those who are more comfortable with Singapore’s other main languages.
Together, we can demonstrate our support for the total abolition of marital immunity for rape. If every one of us can convince even one other person to sign the petition, collectively, we will have a powerful voice.

This has been long awaited. When I was in Singapore, I used to counsel other students of my age who came from dysfunctional families. In some of these cases, they spoke to me about their mother’s agony, sometimes arising out of rape and other forced physical conduct that often accompanies rape. It is very shocking how common marital rape and other forms of domestic violence is.
That is why it is so so important that this campaign has finally started. We all have a duty to keep debating and promoting these issues to keep it on the agenda. It’s not always easy to begin a campaign especially one deemed quite controversial, so to all behind this (emails, petitions, meetings, website building, networking), well done!
